Fire safety tips

General safety

  • No smoking is allowed in any of our houses or in the garage.
  • Please do not remove or disable any smoke alarms.
  • Make sure you don't have too many appliances plugged into power points or multi-boards.
  • If you use an electric blanket, make sure it is in good condition, that it lies flat on the bed and that cords aren't twisted. Turn off the blanket when you get into bed - never sleep with it turned on.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • Keep furniture, clothes and curtains at least one metre from heaters.
  • Make sure electrical cords and leads are in good condition and not frayed and ensure that furniture does not rest on top of cords.

Safety in the kitchen

  • Don't leave anything cooking on the stove top unattended.
  • Clean up any spills on the stove top.
  • Keep anything flammable away from the stove top.
  • Regularly clean the rangehood filters.
  • If the frying pan is on fire, put a lid on it. Don't throw water on it or attempt to carry it outside.
